Yes. Catholics become Muslim every day. You say the shahada and no ritual is needed to leave the Church. The questions Catholics most often have, about Mary, saints, confession and family traditions, have clear and kind answers, and you'll find that Islam honours Jesus and Mary.

Mary and Jesus are honoured

Many Catholics fear they'll have to give up their love for Mary and Jesus. You don't. Mary (Maryam) is the only woman named in the Quran, and it has a whole chapter named after her. The angels tell her:

وَإِذْ قَالَتِ ٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةُ يَـٰمَرْيَمُ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ ٱصْطَفَىٰكِ وَطَهَّرَكِ وَٱصْطَفَىٰكِ عَلَىٰ نِسَآءِ ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ "And [remember] when the angels said, 'O Mary! Surely Allah has selected you, purified you, and chosen you over all women of the world.'" Quran 3:42

Muslims believe Jesus (Isa) was a great messenger of Allah, born miraculously to Mary. What differs is that Islam holds that Jesus is not God or the Son of God. The Quran says "Allah is only One God" (Quran 4:171). See What does the Quran say about Mary?

Saints and prayer

In Islam, you pray to Allah alone, directly, with no need for saints or intermediaries. Muslims respect the prophets and righteous people but do not ask them to intercede or pray to them. The Quran reassures you that Allah is close:

فَإِنِّى قَرِيبٌ ۖ أُجِيبُ دَعْوَةَ ٱلدَّاعِ إِذَا دَعَانِ "I am truly near. I respond to one's prayer when they call upon Me." Quran 2:186

See Do Muslims believe in saints? The rosary has a simple counterpart in Islam, the tasbih (beads or fingers for remembering Allah), so your habit of prayer and repetition carries over.

Confession and forgiveness

Catholics rely on confession to a priest. Islam has no priest between you and Allah. You turn to Him directly, regret what you did, stop it and resolve not to return. Allah forgives sincere repentance. See Is there confession in Islam?

Leaving the Church and family traditions

  • No ritual to leave. Your baptism needs no undoing in Islam, and church paperwork is optional.
  • Mass and the sacraments. Muslims do not take part in these acts of worship, but you can stay close to family at the dinner table, weddings and other gatherings.
  • Customs. Easter and Christmas are among the harder moments. Explain gently what you can and can't join in.
  • The Trinity. The main difference in belief is God's oneness. See Do I have to believe Jesus isn't God to become Muslim?
