Can I go to college parties if I don't drink?

It depends on the party. Not drinking is a great start, but a typical college party is built around alcohol, and the Prophet ﷺ told believers not to sit where alcohol is being passed around. A birthday dinner, game night or dorm hangout without alcohol is fine. A house party or frat party where everyone is drinking usually isn't, even if you only hold a soda.
Why "I won't drink" isn't the whole answer
Islam doesn't only forbid drinking alcohol. It warns about what alcohol does to people and asks you to stay away from the setting around it:
The Prophet ﷺ said that whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day should not sit at a spread where alcohol is being passed around (Jami' at-Tirmidhi 2801). Many college parties also come with drinking games, hooking up and pressure to "just have one". Being there sober doesn't make those things okay to be part of.
Parties that are fine
- Alcohol-free gatherings: birthday dinners, movie nights, game nights, potlucks.
- Club and society socials that are built around an activity, not drinking.
- Sober or "dry" events run by your college or residence hall.
- MSA and ISoc events, which are a great way to have fun without the pressure.
The gray zones
Some events are mixed: a friend's birthday where a few people bring beer, or a dinner that turns into drinks later. The Prophet ﷺ said that between the clearly lawful and the clearly unlawful there are doubtful things, and whoever avoids them protects his religion and his honor (Sahih al-Bukhari 52). Some practical rules:
- Go for the meal or the cake, then leave when the drinks come out.
- Sit apart from the table where alcohol is being served.
- Bring a friend who doesn't drink, so leaving early is easy.
- If a party is mainly about getting drunk, skip it.

Staying social without the party scene
It's normal to fear missing out. But you don't need parties to have a full social life. Host your own game night, start a weekend food tour with friends, or join a club where people bond over something they love. Real friends will care more about spending time with you than about where it happens. For big events like prom, see Can I still go to prom as a Muslim?
