Can I make dua for my pet?

Yes, you can make dua for your pet. You can ask Allah to heal your sick cat, protect your dog, ease an animal's pain or help you find a lost pet. Caring for animals is rewarded in Islam, and asking Allah for their good is part of that care.
Animals matter to Allah
The Quran says every creature on the earth and every bird is part of a community like ours. Allah created them, provides for them and knows each one. So it is natural to turn to Him when an animal you love is unwell or in danger.
Kindness to animals brings reward
The Prophet ﷺ told of a man who climbed down a well to bring water to a thirsty dog, and Allah forgave him for it. When the Companions asked if there is reward for helping animals, he said: "In every living creature there is a reward" (Sahih al-Bukhari 2363). He also warned of a woman punished for locking up a cat without food or water (Sahih al-Bukhari 3482). Dua is one way of showing that same mercy. See Can I keep a cat inside my house?
What you can ask for
- Healing: "O Allah, cure my cat and take away her pain."
- Protection: "O Allah, keep my dog safe while I'm away."
- A lost pet: "O Allah, guide him back home safely."
- Patience for you: when a pet is old or very sick, ask Allah for strength and for the right decision about treatment.

What about when a pet dies?
Animals aren't held to account for sins the way people are, so you don't need to ask forgiveness for them. Scholars explain that animals will be gathered on the Day of Judgement and then become dust, while Allah's justice and mercy cover them fully. You can make dua for yourself: for patience, for comfort, and that Allah replaces your sadness with something good. Grieving a pet is normal and not a weakness. See Will my dog go to heaven in Islam?
Do your part too
Dua goes hand in hand with action. Take your pet to the vet, follow the vet's advice, and give it food, water, shelter and gentle treatment. That is tying your camel and trusting Allah together.
- You can make dua for a pet's health, safety or return.
- There is reward in kindness to every living creature.
- Dua can be in your own words and language.
- Combine dua with real care, like taking your pet to the vet.
