It depends on how you use it. Usernames like "Abdullah", "servant_of_allah" or "alhamdulillah_daily" are fine. Calling yourself "Allah" or using a name that belongs only to Him, like "ar-Rahman", is not allowed, and so is using His name in a joking or disrespectful way.

Allah's names deserve respect

Allah's names are sacred, and the Quran warns against misusing them:

وَلِلَّهِ ٱلْأَسْمَآءُ ٱلْحُسْنَىٰ فَٱدْعُوهُ بِهَا ۖ وَذَرُوا۟ ٱلَّذِينَ يُلْحِدُونَ فِىٓ أَسْمَـٰٓئِهِۦ "And to Allah belong the best names, so invoke Him by them. And leave [the company of] those who practice deviation concerning His names." Quran 7:180

A username is how you're called and tagged, so the same rules that apply to real names apply here too.

Usernames that are fine

  • "Servant of" names: Abdullah, Abdurrahman, Abdulkarim. The Prophet ﷺ said the most beloved names to Allah are Abdullah and Abdur-Rahman (Sahih Muslim 2132).
  • Dhikr phrases: "subhanallah", "trust_in_allah", "allahu_akbar_always".
  • Shared attributes without "al-": names like Karim (generous), Rahim or Aziz can describe people too, so scholars allow them as names.

Usernames to avoid

  • "Allah" alone or with numbers, as if it's your name.
  • Names unique to Allah: ar-Rahman, al-Khaliq (the Creator), al-Quddus, used for yourself.
  • Grandiose titles: the Prophet ﷺ said the vilest name to Allah is a man calling himself "King of Kings" (Sahih al-Bukhari 6205). Handles like "TheKingOfKings" fall under this.
  • Gaming tags that invite disrespect: in online games your name appears in kill feeds and trash talk, such as "Allah was eliminated". Many scholars advise against it for this reason.

Think about where the name will appear

Your handle will show up in comments, arguments and memes you can't control. If a profile is mostly for fun, jokes or gaming, a neutral name is wiser. Some people prefer a private handle anyway. Key points
  • "Servant of Allah" names and dhikr phrases are good choices.
  • Don't call yourself "Allah" or use names unique to Him.
  • Avoid grand titles like "King of Kings".
  • Be careful with gaming tags that can appear in disrespectful contexts.
Tip: Not sure about a handle? Picture it in a kill feed, a heated comment thread and a silly meme. If any of those feels wrong, pick something else.
