Can I volunteer at a church food drive during the holidays?

Yes, in most cases. Feeding hungry people is one of the best deeds in Islam, and sorting, packing or serving food at a church or community food drive is charity and good neighborliness. Do the practical work, step aside from any worship, and plan your prayer times.
Feeding the hungry is part of the faith
When a man asked the Prophet ﷺ which part of Islam is best, he answered: to feed the poor and to greet those you know and those you don't know (Sahih al-Bukhari 12). Nothing in that hadith limits it to Muslims, and the Quran tells believers to work together for good:
A church venue is not the same as worship
Most scholars separate worship from kindness. You do not share in another faith's worship, but Allah does not forbid you from dealing kindly and fairly with people of other faiths who live peacefully beside you (Quran 60:8). Packing boxes, stocking shelves, driving donations or serving a meal is helping people in need, whoever runs the building.
Some scholars are more careful. They prefer a mosque-run or neutral charity if the event is mainly a religious service, or if the money goes to church worship. Both views come from sincere scholarship, so follow the one you trust. See Can I give to charity at Christmas as a Muslim?
How to help well
- Ask about the role first. Sorting, packing and delivering are easy. If you are asked to serve ham or alcohol, ask for a different job.
- Sit out worship politely. If the team prays or sings before a shift, stand quietly. You do not need to join in.
- Plan your prayers. Tell the coordinator you will step out for ten minutes. A quiet side room or hallway is usually fine.
- Check the food you take home. Volunteers are often offered leftover meals, so look for pork and gelatin.
It counts as sadaqah
The Prophet ﷺ said, "Every act of goodness is sadaqa" (Sahih Muslim 1005). Your time and effort at a food drive are rewarded as charity, especially if you renew your intention before each shift: "I am doing this for Allah." December is when many food banks are busiest, so your hands matter. See Does volunteering count as charity in Islam?
