Can I wear hijab in a uniformed job like police or army?

Yes, in many countries you can. The UK police, the British Army and the US Army all have approved hijab options as part of the uniform. Some countries, especially France, don't allow it in certain public roles, so check the rules before you apply.
Where hijab is part of the uniform
- UK police: the Metropolitan Police approved a uniform hijab back in 2001, and Police Scotland followed in 2016. Most UK forces now offer one.
- British Armed Forces: Muslim servicewomen can wear a hijab with uniform, with set colours and styles.
- US Army: since 2017, soldiers can wear a hijab with uniform, in a neutral colour, with exceptions for some field and safety situations.
- Canada: the RCMP added a hijab option in 2016.
- Other jobs: many fire services, prison services, paramedics, airlines and security firms have similar policies.
Rules change, so ask recruiters directly. In France and some other European countries, public servants may be barred from visible religious symbols on duty.
Is the job itself okay?
Serving and protecting people is honourable work in Islam, but some roles raise questions about what you might be ordered to do. That's a separate topic. See Can Muslims become police officers? and Can I join the army as a Muslim?
Safety gear and helmets
Uniformed jobs often come with helmets, gas masks or riot gear. Uniform hijabs are designed to fit under helmets and are often made with quick-release or fire-resistant fabric. A gas mask needs a tight seal around the face, so the hijab is worn around it, not under the seal. Where a specific safety rule truly requires removing it for a short time, scholars allow that out of necessity:
Fitness tests and training
Training often involves running, swimming and close physical drills. A sports hijab, long leggings under shorts and a long-sleeve base layer usually meet both the dress code and your modesty needs. - France and some other countries restrict it in public roles.
- Uniform hijabs are designed to work with helmets and safety gear.
