Can Muslims donate to political campaigns?

Yes, most scholars say Muslims can donate to political campaigns, as long as the money is halal, the candidate or cause is aimed at real benefit, and the donation follows the law. It's a way of taking part in public life, like voting, and many Muslim organisations in the West encourage it.
Why it's generally allowed
Islam doesn't treat politics as something believers must avoid. Western Muslim scholars and fiqh councils have widely supported voting and civic engagement as a way to protect communities and promote fairness. Donating is part of the same picture. See Can I vote in elections as a Muslim?
The guiding principle is cooperation in good:
No perfect candidates
Every candidate and party will have some positions a Muslim disagrees with. Scholars apply the principle of weighing benefits and harms: you support the option that brings the most good and the least harm, such as protecting religious freedom, helping the poor, opposing discrimination or ending unjust wars. Supporting a candidate isn't the same as approving everything they stand for. Some scholars are more cautious and say to give only where the candidate's main agenda is clearly beneficial, so use your judgment. See Can Muslims join a political party?
Conditions to keep in mind
- Halal money: give from lawful income.
- Not your zakat: zakat goes to the eight categories in the Quran (9:60), not to political campaigns. A donation is separate money.
- No bribery: giving to buy a personal favour from a politician is a bribe, and the Prophet ﷺ cursed both the one who gives and the one who takes a bribe (Sunan Abi Dawud 3580).
- Follow the law: in the USA only citizens and green-card holders can give to federal campaigns, and there are donation limits. In the UK, donors to parties must generally be on the electoral register. Don't donate in someone else's name.
- Never fund violence or hatred, including against other groups.
Other ways to make a difference
Money isn't the only way to take part. You can volunteer, write to your representative, or join a local campaign on an issue you care about. Some Muslims go further and stand for office. See Can Muslims run for political office?
