Can Muslims have a Super Bowl party?

Yes, Muslims can have a Super Bowl party. Watching football with friends and sharing food is halal fun. Just keep the party free of alcohol and betting, plan around prayer times, and feel free to skip anything on screen you're not comfortable with.
Football and friends are fine
Islam doesn't ban sport or spending an evening with friends. The Prophet ﷺ raced, enjoyed archery and let people watch games, and scholars treat watching a match as permissible entertainment as long as it doesn't lead to something haram. A Super Bowl party is mostly snacks, cheering and good company, and all of that can stay. See Is football haram?
What to leave out
Two things often come with Super Bowl parties that Islam clearly forbids: drinking and gambling. The Quran names them together:
- Alcohol: if you host, serve soda, mocktails and juice. If you're a guest where beer is flowing, many scholars advise not sitting at the table where it's being drunk; a short visit and leaving early is a fair middle path. See Can I go to a bar with friends if I only drink soda?
- Betting: Super Bowl squares, office pools and prop bets where everyone pays in and the winner takes the pot are gambling, even for small amounts. See Is sports betting haram?
- The halftime show and ads: some performances are very revealing. You don't have to watch; it's a natural moment for a snack run or to pray.
Don't let the game eat your prayers
In the US the game usually kicks off in the early evening, which overlaps Maghrib and Isha in February. Pray Maghrib before kickoff or at halftime, and keep a prayer mat in a quiet room. Friends usually respect it, and it's a gentle way to show them your faith without a lecture.
Make it a good halal party
- Buy halal wings, burgers or pizza, and check sauces and dips for wine, bacon bits or gelatin.
- Run a free prediction game with a small prize paid by you as host, not by players. A gift from the host isn't gambling.
- Invite non-Muslim friends too. A great party without drinks often surprises people in a good way.
The February 2027 Super Bowl will likely fall in Ramadan, which is expected to start around 8 February 2027, so you could even turn it into an iftar watch party.
