Do I have to shower before praying after a workout?

No. You don't need a shower before praying after exercise. Sweat doesn't make you impure or break your wudu, so all you need is wudu if it has broken. A shower is recommended for cleanliness, especially before a group prayer or Friday prayer, but it should never make you miss the prayer time.
What is actually required
For prayer, Allah asks for wudu (the washing of the face, arms, head and feet). When you rise for prayer, you wash your face, arms to the elbows, wipe your head and wash your feet to the ankles (Quran 5:6). A full-body wash, ghusl, is only for specific things such as janabah or the end of a period. Exercise isn't one of them. See When is ghusl required?
If your wudu is still valid after the workout, you can pray straight away. If it broke, make wudu again at the sink.
Why a shower is still a good idea
Islam loves cleanliness. Aisha reported that the Companions did their own manual labour, so their sweat smelled, and they were advised to take a bath (Sahih al-Bukhari 2071). The advice was about courtesy and good presence, not about validity.
So a shower is recommended when you can, especially before praying in a group, going to the mosque or attending Jumu'ah. It makes the experience nicer for you and for everyone next to you.
When time is short
When the prayer time is about to end, don't delay the prayer for a shower. The Prophet ﷺ said the dearest deed to Allah is the prayer offered at its proper time (Sahih al-Bukhari 527). Here is a quick routine:
- Make wudu at the sink and dry your face and arms with a towel.
- Change into a fresh top if you have one.
- Use a wet wipe or deodorant if you're praying beside others.
- Pray, then shower afterwards.
If you do shower first, remember that a shower alone doesn't automatically count as wudu. See Does a shower count as wudu? Your clothes also need to be clean and covering. See Can I pray in sweaty workout clothes?
Showering at the gym
If your gym has open showers where people are uncovered, it's fine to skip them and shower at home. Wear swim shorts or use a cubicle if you shower there. See Can Muslim men change in an open gym locker room?
- A shower is not required to pray after a workout.
