How do I protect my home from jinn and bad energy?

The best protection is to follow the means the Prophet ﷺ taught. Say Bismillah when entering your home and eating, recite Ayat al-Kursi at bedtime, recite Surah al-Baqarah in the house, pray at home and keep your home clean and free from sin. Protection comes from Allah, not from objects or rituals.
1. Say Bismillah
The Prophet ﷺ said that when a person enters their house and mentions Allah's name on entering and while eating, Satan says to his companions that they have no place to spend the night and no dinner there (Sahih Muslim 2018). It is a small habit that changes the atmosphere of a home. Say "Bismillah" at the door, before eating and before you turn on the lights.
2. Recite Ayat al-Kursi
In a well-known report, a Companion was taught that whoever recites Ayat al-Kursi when going to bed will have a guard from Allah and Satan will not come near until morning. The Prophet ﷺ confirmed that this was true (Sahih al-Bukhari 2311).
3. Recite Surah al-Baqarah at home
The Prophet ﷺ said not to turn our houses into graveyards, and that Satan runs away from a house where Surah al-Baqarah is recited (Sahih Muslim 780). You do not need to finish it in one sitting. Playing a recording or reading a part each day is a good start, and if you are a new Muslim, start with the parts you can manage.
The same hadith warns against making a home like a graveyard, that is, a place where Allah is never remembered. Pray some voluntary prayers at home, make dua and read some Quran. A home full of dhikr, kindness and peace is the best protection.
5. Keep it clean and free from sin
- Keep the home tidy and clean, especially the places where you pray.
- Avoid music, images and content that fill the home with sin, and avoid fights and shouting.
- Remove items linked to magic, fortune-telling or other religions' rituals.
What to avoid
Do not use amulets, charms, crystals, smoke rituals or "protection" objects. They are not part of the sunnah, and relying on them is a form of shirk. Also, not every worry or bad mood is a jinn; sometimes it is stress or sleep problems. - Say Bismillah on entering and when eating.
