No, wearing an aqeeq ring is not an established sunnah for men. The hadiths that praise aqeeq (agate) rings are judged weak or fabricated by hadith scholars. But a man may wear a silver ring with an aqeeq stone if he likes it, as long as he doesn't believe the stone itself brings luck or protection.

What the Prophet ﷺ actually wore

The Prophet ﷺ wore a silver ring, which he used as a seal on his letters. Anas ibn Malik described it as a silver ring with an Abyssinian stone, which he wore with the stone turned toward his palm (Sahih Muslim 2094). Scholars differ on what that "Abyssinian stone" was: some say a stone from Ethiopia such as onyx or agate, others say it simply means the style of the setting. Nothing in the authentic reports says he chose that stone for a special blessing.

What about the "wear aqeeq" narrations?

You may see sayings like "Wear aqeeq rings, for they remove poverty." Sunni hadith experts, such as Ibn al-Jawzi and al-Albani, graded these as weak or fabricated. So they can't be used to call aqeeq a sunnah. In Shia tradition aqeeq rings are widely recommended, which is one reason the idea is common online. On this site we follow mainstream Sunni scholarship, and here it is clear: the sunnah is the ring, not the specific stone.

Rings for men: the basics

  • Silver is allowed for men; gold is not. See Can Muslim men wear gold rings?
  • Which finger: the little finger is best for men, on the right or left hand; both are reported from the Prophet ﷺ.
  • Stones are fine: agate, onyx or any other stone is permitted as decoration.
  • Writing: if the ring has Allah's name or a verse, take it off before entering the toilet. See Can I wear jewelry with Quran verses on it?

Be careful with "lucky" stones

The real danger isn't the stone; it's the belief. If someone thinks an aqeeq or any gem protects him from harm, attracts money or cures illness by itself, that touches on tawheed, because only Allah brings benefit and removes harm. Scholars compare it to wearing amulets for protection. Wear the ring because you like how it looks, and put your trust in Allah. The same idea applies to evil eye charms. Key points
  • No authentic hadith makes aqeeq rings a sunnah.
  • The Prophet ﷺ wore a silver ring with an Abyssinian stone.
  • Men may wear silver rings with any stone as decoration.
  • Never believe a stone brings luck or protection by itself.
Tip: If you want to follow the sunnah of the ring, choose a simple silver ring and wear it on your little finger. If a seller tells you a stone "removes bad luck", smile, skip that claim, and buy it only if you like how it looks.
