Is it haram to go to a casino for the buffet?

Not usually, and most scholars advise against it. A casino is built on gambling, and the money you spend there supports the business. Some scholars allow eating at a separate restaurant in a genuine need, but most say it is best to choose somewhere else. A casino buffet is also unlikely to be fully halal.
Why many scholars say to avoid it
The Quran warns about gambling because of what it does to people:
Scholars who advise against going give three reasons:
- Supporting the business. Your meal pays a company whose main income comes from gambling. The Quran says, "do not cooperate in sin and transgression" (Quran 5:2).
- Being in a place of gambling. Casinos mix restaurants with gaming floors, so you are surrounded by what Islam forbids.
- Temptation. Free drinks, bright lights and easy access make it easy to slip.
Working in a casino is a separate question with its own ruling. See Can Muslims work at a casino?
When some scholars allow it
Some scholars accept eating at a casino restaurant in limited cases, such as when:
- the restaurant is separate and you do not have to walk through the gambling area;
- there is a real need, such as a hotel stay or a group event you cannot avoid;
- you do not gamble or drink, and you leave straight after eating.
This is treated as an exception, not a habit. If you can eat somewhere else for a similar price, that is the better choice. See Can Muslims stay in a hotel that serves alcohol?
The food question
Even if you go, a buffet raises other questions. Meat is usually not halal, pork and alcohol may be used in dishes and sauces, and serving spoons are often shared. If you are in a situation where you have to eat there, choose seafood, vegetarian dishes or fruit, and ask staff about ingredients.
Better options
- Choose a restaurant outside the casino, with a halal or vegetarian menu.
- If friends or family suggest the buffet, offer another place nearby.
- If you cannot avoid a work or family event, stay out of the gaming area and leave early.
- Most scholars advise against eating at a casino because it supports gambling.
- Do not cooperate in sin (Quran 5:2) and stay away from temptation (Quran 5:91).
- Some scholars allow it only for a real need, at a separate restaurant.
- Buffet food is rarely fully halal, so choose seafood or vegetarian dishes.
