Is it haram to sleep naked?

No, it isn't haram in private, according to most scholars. Sleeping without clothes alone in your room, or with your spouse, is allowed. But Islam encourages modesty even when no one is watching, so many scholars recommend at least light covering. What's not allowed is being uncovered where others could see you.
Modesty, even in private
A companion asked the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ from whom he should cover his private parts. The Prophet ﷺ said: "Conceal your private parts except from your wife," and when asked about being alone, he explained that Allah is more deserving of modesty (Sunan Abi Dawud 4017).
Scholars understand this to mean that covering when alone is recommended, not strictly required. It's a sign of modesty before Allah, not a rule that makes uncovered sleep a sin.
With your spouse
Husband and wife have no awrah between them. Sleeping without clothes together is completely allowed. Many scholars still suggest keeping a sheet or blanket over you, as a matter of good manners.
When it's a problem
- Shared rooms: roommates, siblings or children could see you.
- Kids walking in: the Quran teaches children to ask permission before entering their parents' room at certain times, especially before dawn, at midday and after the night prayer.
- Hotels, camping or dorms, where privacy isn't guaranteed.
- Open curtains or windows facing neighbors.
Practical tips
- Keep a robe or light clothes next to your bed for night-time bathroom trips or emergencies.
- If you wake up for Fajr, get dressed before you pray. Prayer requires covering your awrah.
- If you need to take a ghusl in the morning, keep clean clothes ready.
Comfort and health
Some people sleep better without clothes in hot weather. Islam isn't against comfort. Lightweight, breathable sleepwear can be a good middle ground between comfort and the recommended modesty. For more sleep questions, see Is it haram to sleep on my stomach?
