Is there music in Jannah?

Many scholars say yes, there will be beautiful sounds and singing in Jannah, though the details are part of the unseen. The Quran promises the people of Paradise whatever their souls desire, and some early commentators explained one verse as referring to listening to beautiful voices. Only Allah knows exactly what it will be like.
What the Quran says
Describing the believers on the Day of Judgement, Allah says:
The Arabic word for "delighted" (yuhbarun) means a joy that shows on the face. Some of the early generation, such as Yahya ibn Abi Kathir, said it refers to sama', listening to beautiful sounds and singing. Other commentators kept the meaning general: every kind of honor and pleasure.
Reports about singing in Paradise
There are narrations describing the companions of Paradise singing with lovely voices, and reports of trees whose branches make beautiful sounds in the wind. Scholars differ on how strong some of these chains are, so it's best to hold them lightly. The general promise, though, is certain: the people of Jannah will have "whatever their souls desire" (Quran 41:31, 43:71).
What about music being disputed now?
Many scholars restrict musical instruments in this life, while others allow more (see Can I still listen to music after becoming Muslim?). Either way, the rules of this world don't automatically carry over. Wine is forbidden here, yet the Quran promises rivers of a pure wine in Paradise that causes no headache or intoxication (Quran 47:15, 37:47). Scholars often use this example: something held back for wisdom in this life may be given in a perfect, harmless form in Jannah.
A few scholars added that someone who gives up what they believe is forbidden for Allah's sake can hope for something far better in the next life.
The sound that matters most
The Prophet ﷺ taught that the greatest joy of Jannah is seeing Allah, and the people of Paradise will hear Him speak to them, telling them He is pleased with them forever. No melody in this world comes close to that.
- Many scholars expect beautiful sounds and singing in Jannah.
- Some early commentators linked Quran 30:15 to listening to lovely voices.
- Rules of this world don't simply apply there, like wine (Quran 47:15).
- The exact details are unseen; only Allah knows.
