What should I wear to take my shahada?

Wear clean, modest, comfortable clothes, like you would for visiting any place of worship. There's no special outfit or colour required. If you're taking it at a mosque, women usually bring a scarf for the prayer hall, and everyone takes their shoes off.
There is no dress code for becoming Muslim
Your shahada is valid whatever you're wearing, even if you say it at home in pyjamas. What makes it count is sincere belief and the declaration, not your clothes. So don't let worries about an outfit delay you. That said, many people like to dress nicely because it's a big day, and Islam encourages looking presentable at the mosque:
Practical guide for a mosque visit
- Men: trousers or jeans that cover the knees, and a shirt or T-shirt that covers the shoulders. Avoid shorts and tank tops.
- Women: loose trousers, a long skirt or a dress, with long sleeves. Bring a scarf to cover your hair in the prayer hall; many mosques have spares, but your own is more comfortable. You're not expected to wear hijab full-time yet. See Can I wear a hijab if I'm not Muslim?
- Socks: you'll remove your shoes, so clean socks without holes help.
- Avoid: clothes with slogans, images of people, or anything see-through or very tight.

What about a ghusl and fresh clothes?
Many scholars recommend a full bath (ghusl) when becoming Muslim, and some schools say it's required. You can do it before or after the shahada. Putting on clean clothes afterwards is a nice symbol of your fresh start. See Do I have to shower after taking my shahada?
Photos and keeping it simple
Some new Muslims want photos or a short video to remember the day. If so, plan something you'll be happy to look back on, but don't buy a new wardrobe. Islam discourages showing off and waste. A plain outfit you already own is perfect, and you'll likely be wearing similar clothes to pray in from now on.
- No special clothes are required for the shahada to be valid.
- At a mosque, wear loose, modest clothes that cover arms and legs.
- Women usually bring a scarf for the prayer hall; full-time hijab can come later.
- A ghusl and fresh clothes are a recommended, meaningful touch.
