Where can I pray at the gym?

It depends on the gym, but almost anywhere clean and out of the way works. A quiet corner of the stretching area, an empty studio, a spare spot in the changing room (not the toilets or showers) or a patch of grass outside all work. Bring a small mat, make sure you're properly covered, and face the qibla. Most gyms don't mind at all if you ask.
The whole earth is a place of prayer
The Prophet ﷺ said, "The earth has been made for me (and for my followers) a place for praying... therefore anyone of my followers can pray wherever the time of a prayer is due" (Sahih al-Bukhari 335). You don't need a mosque or prayer room. You need a clean spot, the right direction and a few quiet minutes.
Good spots at a typical gym
- Stretching or mat area: often the quietest part of the floor, with mats already there.
- An empty studio between classes. Ask reception which rooms are free.
- The changing room area: a corner away from the toilets and showers is fine.
- Outside: a clean patch of grass or a quiet part of the car park.
Avoid praying right in front of machines people are using or in walkways. Universities and schools raise the same question. See How do I pray at school or university?
Clean and covered
- Sweat is pure: scholars agree human sweat isn't impure, so a sweaty T-shirt doesn't stop you praying.
- Men: gym shorts that show the knees or thighs don't cover enough for prayer. Pull on track pants or knee-length shorts. See Can I still wear shorts to the gym as a Muslim?
- Women: cover everything except the face and hands. A large hijab or prayer garment that slips over workout clothes makes this quick.
- Wudu: use the changing-room sinks, and keep a small towel for drying your feet.
Leggings and fitted kit are acceptable for prayer as long as they aren't see-through, the same principle as praying in jeans. See Can I pray in jeans?
Plan your workout around prayer
Check prayer times before you go and fit the prayer in at the start or end of the session. A workout isn't a reason to combine prayers or let one run out. Use a qibla app, and a compact travel mat that fits in your gym bag.
- Any clean, quiet spot works; avoid toilets and showers.
- Sweat doesn't make you or your clothes impure.
- Men must cover from navel to knee for prayer.
- Plan sessions so prayer times aren't missed.
