Will there be sadness or pain in Jannah?

No. The Quran describes Jannah as a place with no fear, no grief and no fatigue, where sorrow has been taken away completely. Authentic hadith add that its people will have lasting health and youth, and will never fall ill or die. Whatever hurts in this life, Jannah is promised as its answer.

No sorrow, no fear

The Quran says that when believers enter Paradise, they will thank Allah for removing their sadness:

وَقَالُوا۟ ٱلْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ ٱلَّذِىٓ أَذْهَبَ عَنَّا ٱلْحَزَنَ "And they will say, 'Praise be to Allah, Who has kept away from us all [causes of] sorrow.'" Quran 35:34

Elsewhere Allah promises His servants, "There is no fear for you today, nor will you grieve" (Quran 43:68). Everything that causes anxiety, loss or heartbreak in this life will be absent. See What is Jannah?

No tiredness, illness or ageing

The Quran also says the people of Jannah will never be weary, and will never be asked to leave:

لَا يَمَسُّهُمْ فِيهَا نَصَبٌ وَمَا هُم مِّنْهَا بِمُخْرَجِينَ "No fatigue will touch them there, nor will they ever be asked to leave." Quran 15:48

The Prophet ﷺ also said that an announcer will call out to the people of Paradise: you will have lasting health and never fall ill, you will live and never die, you will stay young and never grow old, and you will live in comfort and never become destitute (Sahih Muslim 2837).

Why is there pain in this life, then?

Islam does not deny that life is hard. The Prophet ﷺ taught that no fatigue, disease, sorrow, sadness, hurt or distress befalls a Muslim, even a thorn prick, but that Allah expiates some of his sins through it (Sahih al-Bukhari 5641). Hardship in this world is a test and can also be a means of forgiveness and raising one's rank. It is temporary, while Jannah is not.

What about those I love who are not there?

It is natural to wonder how there can be no sadness if someone you love is not in Jannah. Muslims believe Allah is perfectly just and merciful and that He will remove all grief from the people of Jannah, as the verses above promise. The details of how this will be are known only to Allah.
